I'm a user experience designer currently living and working in Durham, North Carolina. My goal is to be a strong advocate for the user in all aspects of the development process.
I have been into computing for as long as I can remember. Some of my most vivid early memories are of my family's Texas Instruments TI-99/4A. Playing games was fun, but I quickly realized that making the computer do something new was even more exciting. (Even if it was just using the speech synthesizer module to tease my little brother.)
I was a loyal member of the local BBS until the Internet finally showed up in my hometown of Gaffney, SC. I was instantly hooked: chatting with people from all over the world, trying out bleeding-edge technology as soon as it was available, and creating web pages on every free host I could find.
I went to college at the University of South Carolina, where went to a ton of sporting events (and earned a degree to boot). I met my wife-to-be, Andrea, during our sophomore year.* After we both graduated, we held our wedding at the campus chapel.
Andrea went to UNC to pursue her Ph.D in Biology, and somewhere along the way, we decided that the Triangle was a perfect place to settle down. Dr. Andrea and I now live in Durham, North Carolina along with a cat and two wonderful daughters.
* Technically, we first met during our freshman year, but it was in a game of Unreal Tournament. I'm not sure that really counts.
My current work can be seen at AJE, Research Square, and JournalGuide.
